Note about Virus Warnings

There have been problems with antivirus false positives when downloading or installing Slime Forest Adventure. That is when an antivirus program reports that it detects a virus, trojan, malware, or other hostile code when there isn't actually any.

Sometimes, false positive detection is caused by out-of-date antivirus software. Please make sure your antivirus software has the latest updates downloaded and installed.

There has never been a real virus, trojan, or other malware in Slime Forest Adventure, and there never should be. If there's a warning about one, it's almost certainly a false positive. However, I'd like to hear about it so I can double-check that there is no virus (and, in the unlikely event that there has been a virus, remove it and warn all Slime Forest Adventure users), and see if there's anything I should do to prevent false positives.

If you receive any message claiming that Slime Forest Adventure has a virus I'd appreciate if you let me know, with as much detail as you can provide, at: installproblems@lrnj.com

I've currently got a self-unpacking executable file and a zip file both available as Windows installation options. If one gives a false positive warning and stops you from installing the game, you might try the other. In the past, the self-unpacking executable has been more likely to trigger false positives.

"Putting Your PC at Risk" and Similar Warnings

Slime Forest Adventure is currently distributed as unsigned software, which causes some operatings systems to react as if there's no telling where it came from, regardless of it having just been downloaded over a cryptographically secure web connection, so you know you got it from the lrnj.com website.

The signatures don't actually provide much security, especially for software from a little-known publisher, and especially with users who don't fully understand how the signatures work and what they're for. Some malware is signed, and some legitimate software is unsigned.

I intend to add signing to my build process as soon as I can afford it, to make the scary warning messages go away, but it does cost money to get the certificates. You can help by registering or donating. Back to Project LRNJ front page
