Goal

The goal of Project LRNJ is to produce a game that makes it possible for you to learn to read Japanese much faster than conventional methods of study alone, with less effort spent on organization and discipline, and thereby demonstrate that it is possible and worthwhile to develop enjoyable games to dramatically accelerate the study of large, difficult subjects.

Curriculum

The goal of the full curriculum is to develop a substantial vocabulary and enable you to read most Japanese text with occasional use of dictionaries and grammar references:

  • recognition and readings of all common kanji
Prototyped in the Hard Modes and storyless training in Slime Forest Adventure.
  • a vocabulary of thousands of common words
Prototyped in the storyless training modes of Slime Forest Adventure.
  • knowledge of most common grammar patterns
Prototyped in the storyless training modes of Slime Forest Adventure.
  • knowledge of radicals and stroke counting, for looking up kanji in dictionaries
    Planned.

Project LRNJ needs your support!

I'm currently working to finish a prototype or first draft of the kanji-training portion of Slime Forest Adventure, and make some training options accessible from Android and iOS phones and tablets.

After that, I'd like to revise the main game and expand it with grammar and vocabulary training, with full support for portable devices.

I'm going to try working full time on this again, but I'll need to make enough to keep the server up and cover some other bills while I'm doing so, which is why I'm setting monthly revenue goals. I'm aiming for a minimum of $1,000/month.

Because of previous contributions, I've been able to make everything here that's available so far, keep the server running, and get equipped with Android and iOS devices to test on and essentials such as a drawing tablet, laying the groundwork for the current round of releases. Thank you to everyone who made that possible!

If you'd like to make a contribution to Project LRNJ, please go to the Registration Page or Member Area, where you can make a game purchase, custom-amount contribution, or sign up for a monthly recurring contribution.

Thank you for reading this!
